The Penitent
About
In a world of power plays and carefully crafted control, the deepest surrender is not to a person, but to the truth.
Lillian Parsons is a force to be reckoned with—a brilliant defense attorney who dominates courtrooms and secures acquittals for the guilty. But her success comes at a cost. The only way to shed the weight of her ambition is to surrender completely to a man she calls Daddy. In the sanctuary of his high-rise penthouse, their carefully orchestrated rituals of dominance and submission offer her the release she craves and the structure she needs.
Mitchell Stephenson is her anchor and her master. As a rising District Attorney, he commands respect by day and commands her pleasure by night. Their forbidden dynamic is a perfectly balanced secret, until a devastating promotion forces him to choose between the woman he loves and the career he’s built.
But Mitchell is hiding a much more terrible secret. As his behavior becomes erratic and their sacred rituals begin to fracture, Lillian’s sharp intuition tells her his coldness is a lie. The man who would punish her for losing control is now desperately out of control himself.
When the shocking truth is finally revealed, their world of power exchange shatters, replaced by a brutal race against time. The Penitent must lay down her role and face their hardest trial yet: finding strength in vulnerability, peace in surrender, and a love powerful enough to face the ultimate end.
This is a raw, emotionally devastating story of love, loss, and the transformative power of surrender, perfect for readers of dark, tearjerker romance.
Praise for this book
The Penitent by Julie Grayson narrates the story of a dominant/submissive relationship and an unexpected, emotional twist that accompanies the relationship. The talented author vividly captures the strength of the character’s feelings, which really drives the underlying story. This is much more than a simple dom-sub issue. There are true people and sensitive hearts beneath the roles they play. When the masks are off, the human interaction is genuine and heartfelt. The story moves on a very unexpected path that adds incredible depth and surprise. The volume is a quick read, but there is plenty on the pages for a good and expressive story about two people confronting the unforeseen realities of life and how their relationship unfolds beyond the bedroom play.
This book is intense. And very well written. I'd never read erotica before and this was an interesting place to start, considering it's much more than that. Without giving away too much, this is a story about the human condition and how we deal with the painful parts of life with our most intimate relationships. It's a quick read too, no excuse not to give it a go.
